NHL odds comparison across sportsbooks
Moneylines, puck lines, totals and 1st period lines from DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars in one grid, so you can see the best available number on every game without opening four apps. The no-vig fair price and hold are computed from the books at the consensus line, so a book posting a different puck line does not pollute the edge calculation.
Why the puck line is almost always 1.5 goals
The puck line is the NHL point spread, and it is almost always set at 1.5 goals because hockey is a low scoring sport where the large majority of games are decided by one or two goals. The favorite must win by 2 or more to cover the puck line, and the underdog covers if they win outright or lose by exactly 1.
Because 1.5 is the standard, the puck line price moves more than the line itself. A heavy favorite at -1.5 might pay plus money, while a slight favorite at -1.5 might be a steep underdog price. Shopping the puck line across books matters because the price gap between books on the same 1.5 line can be wider than on the moneyline.
How the no-vig fair price and hold are computed
For each side we find the consensus line, which is the puck line or total posted by the most books. We convert each book's American odds at that line to an implied probability, average them, and normalise the two sides so they sum to 100 percent. The result is the no-vig fair price, which is what the market thinks the true probability is once the vig is removed.
The edge percentage in the Best column is the gap between that fair price and the best available price at the consensus line. A book on a different line still shows in its column with an amber asterisk, but it never counts as best or worst and never feeds the fair value or the hold. The hold is the combined margin of the best price on each side, and lower is better for you.
1st period lines
1st period lines let you bet the opening frame only, which is useful when you have a read on how a game starts but not how it finishes. The gaps between books tend to be wider on 1st period lines because the market is thinner than the full game, so there is more to shop for.
A 1st period puck line or total is a different bet from the full game number, not the same bet at a different price, so always check the consensus line column before comparing across books.
How the prop edges work
Each prop compares our projection with the market line. For shots on goal and points, we treat the stat as a Poisson count around our projected mean and compute the chance of going over. A positive edge means our model gives the over a higher chance than the de-vigged market price.
The de-vigged market price removes the sportsbook margin from the over and under odds, so the edge is measured against the true probability the market implies, not the raw price. Odds are from FanDuel and projections are from our NHL engine.
Frequently asked questions
Which sportsbooks are included?
DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars for game lines. Player props are from FanDuel.
What is a puck line?
The NHL point spread. It is almost always 1.5 goals, so the favorite must win by 2 or more and the underdog covers if they win outright or lose by 1.
How is the no-vig fair price computed?
We take the consensus line, convert each book's odds at that line to an implied probability, average them, and normalise the two sides to remove the vig.
What is the hold?
The combined margin of the best price on each side. Lower is better for you. Under 2 percent is very good, over 5 percent is expensive.
