Build a custom MLB stat formula

Model Lab lets you write a formula from the BankrollSZN stat catalog and rank every MLB batter or pitcher by it. Pick batters or pitchers, choose a pool (today's slate, the full season, qualified players only, or the last 30 days), set a minimum plate appearance or batter faced floor, and run. The leaderboard updates with your formula applied to every player in the pool.

What the formula engine does

The catalog lists every stat available as a building block, from wOBA and wRC+ to strikeout rate, barrel rate and swinging strike rate. You combine them with arithmetic, so a formula like wOBA times ISO or strikeout rate minus walk rate is one line of text. Sample formulas are included to show the syntax and give you a starting point.

The pool you choose changes the leaderboard more than the formula does. Today's slate ranks only players active that day, while the season pool ranks everyone who has logged a plate appearance. Set the minimum high enough to filter out tiny sample noise, or low enough to catch a prospect with one good week.

Saving and reloading your models

Save a formula you like and reload it later without retyping it. Saved models store the player type, pool, sample sizes and formula text, so the leaderboard comes back exactly as you left it. Run it again on a fresh slate or a new week and the numbers update with the latest underlying data.

Frequently asked questions

What stats can I use in a formula?

Any stat in the BankrollSZN MLB catalog, including wOBA, wRC+, ISO, strikeout rate, walk rate, barrel rate and swinging strike rate.

What is the difference between the pools?

Today's slate ranks only players on the current MLB slate. Season qualified requires a minimum number of plate appearances or batters faced. Season all includes everyone. Last 30 days covers the most recent month.

What is a good minimum plate appearance floor?

30 plate appearances filters out most tiny sample noise for batters. For pitchers, 30 batters faced is the default floor. Raise either if you want only regulars.

Can I save my formula?

Yes. Saved models store the player type, pool, sample sizes and formula, and reload with the latest data.

Is Model Lab free?

Yes, with a free account.
