What to read before a series

Recent form is worth more than season record, because patches and roster changes mean a team from two months ago is often not the team playing tonight. A record built early in a split can describe a version of a team that no longer exists.

Head to head history is more useful in League than in most sports, but for a specific reason. It is not about psychology, it is that teams have identifiable strategic preferences and some of those preferences match up badly against others. A team that likes to play slowly and scale struggles against a team that ends games early, and that pattern repeats.

Series format shapes the whole read. A best of three lets a stronger team adapt after losing a game, which favours the better side more than a single game does. Upsets are far more likely in single-game formats for exactly that reason.

Turning a preview into a lineup

Expected game count is the first thing to extract. A series projected to go the distance offers more total opportunity to everyone in it, which raises the ceiling for players on both teams, including the side likely to lose.

Then decide how the favourite is likely to win. A team that wins through early aggression produces high kill totals and rewards stacking its carries. A team that wins slowly through objectives produces lower kill counts and less fantasy scoring even when it wins comfortably.
