Injury Risk Flags
PGA injury and withdrawal watch
Player status and withdrawal risk ahead of lock, so a golfer who is unlikely to finish the tournament does not end up in your lineup or your outright ticket.
Why a withdrawal is worse in golf than an injury elsewhere
In most sports an injured player is replaced and the lineup still functions. In golf DFS a withdrawal is close to a zero, and there is no substitution to soften it. A single mid-tournament withdrawal can end an entire slate for a lineup regardless of how the other five picks perform.
The risk is also less visible than in team sports. There is no daily injury report requirement and no coach answering questions about availability, so information arrives late, informally and often through practice-round observation rather than any official channel.
Golfers also play through problems that would sideline other athletes, right up until they cannot. That is why the warning signs tend to be behavioural, such as a shortened practice schedule or a withdrawal from the previous event, rather than a formal designation.
Managing the risk
The practical response is exposure limits rather than avoidance. A flagged golfer is not unplayable, but he should not appear in a large share of your lineups, because the downside is total rather than partial.
For outright bets the calculation is different, since the stake is already committed and priced. There the question is whether the price compensates for the elevated chance he does not finish, and most of the time a market that has not reacted to the news has not priced it at all.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a withdrawal matter so much in golf DFS?
There is no replacement. A withdrawn golfer is effectively a zero for the rest of the tournament and it cannot be substituted around.
Is there an official injury report in golf?
No. Status information arrives informally and late compared with team sports.
What are the warning signs?
A withdrawal from a recent event, a shortened or cancelled practice round, and any reported physical issue carried into the week.
Should I avoid flagged golfers entirely?
Not necessarily. Limit exposure instead, since the downside is total rather than partial.
Is the injury watch free?
Yes, the full board with a free account.
