Weather is the cheapest edge in NFL DFS and NFL betting, and it is the one most people check too late. BankrollSZN's NFL Weather tool shows kickoff temperature, wind speed and gusts, wind direction, rain and snow chance and humidity for every game on the slate, then turns those conditions into a lean on the game total and a read on quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. A 20 mph wind is worth more to your lineup than most injury news. Indoor games are flagged so you know where the variance is gone. Check it before every slate on DraftKings and FanDuel.
Wind is the one that moves the number
Wind does more to an NFL total than cold or rain ever will. Under about 8 mph it is noise. Between 8 and 15 it starts to shave deep passing and long field goals. Above 15 mph the passing game gets shorter and the kicking game gets unreliable, and above 20 mph books move totals on it.
The effect is not spread evenly. A quarterback throwing behind the line of scrimmage barely notices. A receiver whose value comes from twenty yard targets loses more than the quarterback does, which is why the WR read on each card is a little harsher than the QB read.
Cold, rain and snow
Cold air is dense and hands are stiff, so scoring drops as the temperature falls below about 45°F. The effect is real but small next to wind, and it is mostly a passing effect, so it nudges rushing share up rather than killing the game.
Rain and snow cut passing efficiency and push both teams toward the run. The number that matters is not whether precipitation is in the forecast, it is the chance of it landing at kickoff multiplied by how hard it falls. Steady snow plays very differently from a 30 percent chance of drizzle.
Roofs, neutral sites and international games
Ten venues on the schedule are enclosed, and a closed roof means no weather adjustment at all. Those games are flagged rather than hidden.
The venue for each game comes from the league feed per game, not from the home team. That matters in a season with games in London, Munich, Madrid, Melbourne, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro and Paris. A Rams home game played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground shows Melbourne weather, because that is where the ball is being kicked.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead does the forecast go?
Sixteen days. Past that the card says the forecast is not open yet rather than showing a guess.
What wind speed actually matters?
Under 8 mph is noise. 8 to 15 mph starts to bite on deep passing and long kicks. Above 15 mph can move a total.
Do you cover domes?
They are listed and flagged, and no weather adjustment is applied to them.
Where do the stadium coordinates come from?
Every venue is geocoded from OpenStreetMap and then checked against the league's own city for that venue. A venue that fails the check shows no weather rather than a wrong one.
