What this OL vs DL matchup tool measures
Fantasy defenses score from sacks, fumbles, interceptions and defensive touchdowns, and nearly all of those start with a quarterback under pressure. This tool grades every pass rush against the offensive line it faces this week and ranks the matchups by how many of those big events we expect above an average matchup.
Each defensive line and offensive line gets a rating from pressure rate and sack rate per dropback, adjusted for the strength of the opponents it has already faced. A front that sacked three weak lines is rated below a front that did the same against three good ones.
How injuries change the rankings
Line injuries move pass rush matchups more than most fantasy injuries. Every missing offensive line starter adds close to one point of pressure rate for the defense across years of games, and losing a pass rusher removes his share of the team's pressures. The DL and OL ranks on this page include current injury report and injured reserve news. The healthy ranks show the same unit at full strength.
How to use it for DFS defenses
Start with the Biggest DL over OL list. A strong pass rush against a weak or injured line, facing a quarterback who drops back often, is the profile that produces multi-sack games. Pair the edge with the game total and spread: a defense with a big pass rush edge in a low total game is the strongest setup. The Biggest OL over DL list works the other way. Those quarterbacks should have clean pockets, which helps their passing projections and hurts the opposing defense.
How accurate the model is
We tested the ratings week by week on every regular season game from 2021 through 2026 without letting the model see the games it graded. Matchups graded as a big edge for the pass rush averaged 2.99 sacks allowed. Matchups graded as a big edge for the offensive line averaged 1.84.
Frequently asked questions
What is a pass rush mismatch?
A game where a strong defensive line faces a weak offensive line. We measure it as expected sacks, fumbles and interceptions above an average matchup, based on each unit's pressure and sack rates.
How often is this page updated?
Every three hours through the season. Injury news, injured reserve moves and new game data flow in automatically.
Where does the data come from?
Public NFL play data: dropbacks, pressures, sacks, snap counts, weekly rosters and the official injury report, rebuilt into BankrollSZN's own ratings.
Why is a team's DL rank different from its healthy rank?
The DL rank removes injured pass rushers by their share of the team's pressures. The healthy rank shows the unit at full strength.
