NHL line movement tonight
This page tracks NHL line movement for every game on tonight's board. For each game you get the moneyline, the total with its over price, and each team's implied goals, with the open, the live number and the difference. The games with the biggest implied goals or total move are at the top.
The data is the FanDuel line. It is checked every 30 minutes from the morning until puck drop, and a point is added to the trend only when a price or a line changes. The open is the first FanDuel line we logged for the game. Captures stop at puck drop, so the live number on a started game is its closing line.
Goalies move NHL lines more than anything else
The biggest NHL moves usually follow the starting goalie news. When a team confirms its backup instead of its starter, the moneyline and the total can both move a long way. Check the starting goalies page before you read a move as sharp money.
The puck line is almost always 1.5 goals, so it rarely moves. The price on it moves instead. That is why this board tracks the moneyline and the implied goals, which show the change more clearly.
Why the total price matters
NHL totals sit at 5.5 or 6.5 most nights. Books often keep the line and move the price, from -110 to -130 on the over for example. A total that flips from 5.5 to 6.5 with a big price change can be a small move in real terms. The implied goals column uses the price as well as the line, so it shows the true size of a total move.

Why does the NHL total flip between 5.5 and 6.5?
Books keep most totals near 6 and move the price. When the over price gets too short they move the line and reset the price. The implied goals column shows the real change.
